Then saith He unto His disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He will send forth labourers into His harvest." Matthew 9:37-38
I remember those days well.
When I was in college, I often found myself looking for a better job. Seems like I responded to almost every "Help Wanted" sign that I saw. And, of course, I spent an hour or so almost every morning...
...looking over the classified ads in my local newspaper.
You see, that is where most employers place their advertisements when they are seeking help. They simply list the job opening, along with a brief description and qualifications the applicant should possess. And, of course, there was a contact person listed so that interested persons could follow up on the position.
My friends, you can turn to the classified ad section of your local newspaper and find out about the various opportunities available for your employment, that's true. But, there is a higher and greater One who is seeking willing workers today as well...
...His name is Jesus Christ.
You see, as I looked over the "classifieds" this morning in the Word of God, I noticed that there were many positions that are open to those interested in an opportunity to work for the Kingdom. In fact, I noticed that the Lord went so far as to say that the "labourers are few." And so, maybe it is time for you and I to take a fresh look at the classified ad section of God's Holy Word. As I said, there are many positions that need to be filled.
- HELP WANTED: Advertising and Promotion Specialists needed. Local, national and international positions available for those wanting to promote the Gospel. No experience necessary.
Training provided through the Holy Spirit. Must be willing to advertise the Good News of Jesus Christ. Start immediately. See Matthew 28:19 for details.
- HELP WANTED: Looking for friendly, outgoing Company Representatives. Good people skills required. Must be able to represent the values and principles of our Company Philosophy, The Bible. Sorry, no part-time work available. Applicants will be "on call" at all times to represent the Kingdom of God. Serious inquiries only. See 2 Corinthians 5:20 for details.
- HELP WANTED: Now organizing a team of Prayer Warriors for global intercession project. This is the ideal "work from home" position. Leads are provided and the applicant will be expected to generate their own list of prayer requests. Prefer candidate who loves to communicate and is goals oriented. This position is critical to the success of our other opportunities. See John 15:7 for details.
- HELP WANTED: Servants needed for a variety of odd jobs. Applicant will receive a daily calendar from the Holy Spirit. Some responsibilities and duties might include: teaching Sunday school class, driving the church van, visiting the sick, encouraging the downtrodden, serving as an example, discipleship training, evangelism, caring for the elderly, giving, soul-winning, bearing burdens and many other activities. Tired of the "same old boring" position...this one is ever changing and offers exciting possibilities. All ages are encouraged to "apply." Assignments available now.
See 2 Peter 1:4-9 for a detailed description of this opportunity.
Oh, I forgot to mention. Each of these positions has a salary description as well. It simply reads...
"Don't expect a monetary salary for your work...but just remember, the benefits and retirement are out of this world."
Yes, my friends, there are positions available today. Something for you to fill, something for me to fill. God is seeking those who will represent His kingdom, those who will "advertise" the Gospel, those who will pray and those who will do the "odd jobs" of the King of Kings. In fact, you and I are to fill ALL of those positions.
Jesus has something today for you to do. There is some specific thing that He has placed in your life, that only you can accomplish for His Kingdom. Read the Bible. Study the "classifieds." And when you do, you'll hear the Lord whisper to your heart...
Have a "Wonderful DAY in Christ,"
