Did Mary watch Jesus die?
The answer to this is not completely clear. It is stated that she saw Him on the cross, as He spoke to her and commended her into John's care (John 19:25-28). The account there seems to imply that John took her to his own home then so she would not see her son die. However, it is also mentioned in Matthew 27:55-56 that Mary, the mother of James and Joses was watching from afar off. It is possible that on the way to John's house, they stopped so they could see the end.
There is debate as to whether this Mary is indeed the mother of Jesus. It seems likely from Matthew 13:54-58 as these two names are specifically mentioned with a clear reference to Christ's mother in the list of his four half-brothers.
